Protecting Your Mobility with Early Detection, Support, and Custom Solutions
Serving DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Lancaster, Glenn Heights, and the Best Southwest region, I help patients protect their mobility and stay safely on their feet.
What Is Charcot Foot?
Charcot foot is a progressive condition where weakened bones, joints, and soft tissues in the foot begin to break down, often without pain. It occurs most commonly in people with diabetic neuropathy, where nerve damage prevents the foot from sensing injury. As the bones weaken, the foot can collapse or deform, leading to long‑term disability if not treated early.
Early Warning Signs
Charcot foot often begins subtly. Seek immediate evaluation if you notice:
Redness or warmth in one foot
Swelling that doesn’t match your activity level
A foot that feels “hotter” than the other
Instability or a sudden change in foot shape
No pain despite significant swelling
Early detection is critical. The sooner the foot is protected, the better the long‑term outcome.

Without early intervention, Charcot foot can lead to:
Severe deformity (often a “rocker‑bottom” shape)
Chronic wounds or ulcers
Increased risk of infection
Loss of mobility
Stabilizing the foot early prevents collapse and protects long‑term function.
